Three Timeshares with High Consumer Complaints

How large is the problem when it comes to unscrupulous sales tactics, predatory timeshare contracts and dissatisfied customers in the timeshare industry?  When it comes to timeshares, we acknowledge that there are some  that have an excellent reputation, both in terms of sales and service to consumers.  Unfortunately, the industry is also plagued by fraudulent timeshare companies, who consistently face legal action for their methods and predatory contract policies.

We would like to share three companies who have received numerous complaints, to allow consumers the opportunity to review the experience that other timeshare buyers have had, with some of the leading management and vacation membership organizations.

Resort Condominiums International, Inc. (RCI)

“My husband and I are beyond livid!!! This company has ripped us off tremendously. First of all, all the incentives they promised us never happened; we never received anything at all!! We then “won” some “reward” trip and paid additional $100 that we never got to use. Maintenance and renewal fees were NEVER mentioned to us. We were never told we could not transfer the loan, nor resell the TS unless amount was paid in full. Every time we have tried to use our vacation time, there is nothing available at any time at any place nor enough points and there is always extra $ that needs to be paid. We have been paying these $10,000 since 2012 and we still owe about $6000!!!! how!?!?!?! we haven’t been able to use it ONCE!”

“I see I not the only one that has been ripped off by RCI, We paid this thing off and never got a dime or a vacation out of it.”

“A cost to pool and a cost to use points pooled – Sounded like RCI would provide the opportunity to literally see the world. Come to find out, the points that you pay dues on, will cost you more money to place in RCI and then money to use the points for your RCI stay. This means you can pay for your points two to three times over, just for a week long stay. Don’t fall for the RCI scam!! Plus, they never stop calling. Best way to get rid of them is get a new phone number!”

Timeshares Only

“What resolution in progress are you referring to with Timeshares Only? A representative calls me and asks me to lower the asking price that was listed for originally and the list price was recommended by Vivian and now it’s too high and has been lowered when originally I wanted to list for a lower price. It was recommended by Vivian to list higher leaving room for negotiation. There has been no resolution, the company is not responsible to sell anything but take your money!!! If you bought a timeshare you might as well give it away instead of spending more money with this company trying to sell it because it will never happen, not in this lifetime.”

“I was contacted by a representative from this company and was told about selling my timeshare. I had to pay $400.00 to get a webpage so they could Sell my timeshare and they would find people and we will negotiate a price. Put it like this – I have not heard from them in 4 years. What makes this even worse is I have been deployed overseas for a Couple of years and not an email or anything. I wish I Could get MY money back.”

Wyndham Vacation Resorts

“Poor service, no availability. Just another vacation scam. I have called 3 different times to book a reservation at least 3 months in advance and there never seems to be anything available for the weekends. My last call took them 25 minutes to answer before I actually got someone on the phone. I was told that I needed to book 10 months in advance. Price are lower and better rated hotels just by using Priceline or Expedia. Don’t fall for this scam.”

“At a booth at the Texas State Fair in 2015, I purchased a “Vacation Getaway” for “3 days and 2 nights’ accommodations at Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel… or a comparable area hotel…” A few extras were included such as a dinner certificate and two river cruise tickets. At no time did the salesperson inform me that the package was contingent on attending a “120-minute CLUB WYNDHAM sales presentation” to try to sell me “a lifetime of quality and worry-free vacations…” The literature that I subsequently received in the mail contained that information. Bottom line, I am going to lose my $99, because I have no desire to take a trip during which I will be subjected to a sales pitch in which I have no interest and for which I have no time. Consumers need to be aware that full disclosure did not seem to apply here, at least in my experience.”
